Our favorite personal finance blogs: Get Rich Slowly
Sometimes the name really does say it all. Get Rich Slowly is one of the most widely-read personal finance blogs out there because it provides advice for all of us from an everyday kind of guy. The blogger, J.D., doesn’t have a secret agenda to promote some side business, book or other project. He’s completely transparent with his devoted audience and openly admits that he’s no financial pro, but rather “just an average guy who found himself deep in debt.” If that isn’t a recipe for a successful blog, I don’t know what is. Pick something you are passionate about, write your heart out, be honest with your audience and always take every opportunity to learn and grow. Get Rich Slowly is a great model for all of us who aspire to be blogging experts in our topic areas.
I want to quickly highlight the 12 beliefs of the Get Rich Slowly philosophy. These little pearls of wisdom might be common sense to most of you, but they really drive it home that growing wealth doesn’t happen overnight and that any of us can start taking the baby steps now. Please see J.D.’s original post for his thoughts behind each belief.
- Money is more about mind than it is about math.
- Goals are important.
- Spend less than you earn.
- Pay yourself first.
- Small amounts matter.
- Large amounts matter, too.
- Do what works for you.
- Slow and steady wins the race.
- The perfect is the enemy of the good.
- Failure is okay.
- It’s more important to be happy than it is to be rich.
- Do it now.
